Tips to get the very best Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Penthouse Condo with Yacht Views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
