Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Wonderfully Updated Three Bedroom Villa in Hickory Cove! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your trip.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
