Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious Home with Gourmet Kitchen, Private Pool, & WiFi - Steps from the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
