Tips to get the very best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful Oceanfront Home with Large Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
