Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfectrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Wonderfully Updated Three Bed Four Bath Villa Walking Distance to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
