Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- First and foremost, have your group select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spectacular Harbourfront Villa completely renovated located in Shelter Cove has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
