Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by having your family commit to dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly gem with pool, game room & golf course views - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
