Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 4 bed\/3 bath home in Shipyard with peaceful lagoon view and private pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
