Rental booking tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 4 bed\/3 bath home in Shipyard with peaceful lagoon view and private pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
