Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Carefree coastal condo with private balcony, pool, tennis courts, & beach access has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
