Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. A spacious condo with community pool, hot tub, and oceanfront views has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
