Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Waterfront condo w\/ private balcony, W\/D and near beach + marina has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
