Our top Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Choosing the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Luxurious all-suite home with a private pool and hot tub in a backyard paradise has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
