How to find the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and choosing your Hilton Head rental home:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxurious all-suite home with a private pool and hot tub in a backyard paradise has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for your stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
