Mooring Buoy 151 is located in the handsome Palmetto Dunes plantation. The moment you walk through the double wooden doors into the two-story Great Room, you feel that you have entered into a bright and great vacation home. The dining area has a Henredon table with seating for eight. Attached to the dining room is a pretty screened porch with a tiled table with four chairs and two bar stools with a bar table. The cavernous rear deck with another table seating for four and a gas grille faces the pool and the calming lagoon alive with herons and egrets.

The main level of the home has two bedrooms - a roomy primary suite and a guest room. Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 2-story house with private heated outdoor pool, stunning views & foosball has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
