Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Start by having your group agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. 2-story house with private heated outdoor pool, stunning views & foosball has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
