Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best rental in Hilton Head:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 105 Barrington Arms- Totally Updated Oceanfront Condominium! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
