Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Lovely townhome with balcony, tennis & W/D - steps to golf & beach trolley has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
