Hilton Head rental booking tips:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Stunning oceanfront villa with WiFi, pool & hot tub, private balcony has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
