Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking the rightrental home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Stunning oceanfront villa with WiFi, pool & hot tub, private balcony has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
