Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 2 Oyster Catcher - 4Br Sea Pines Home Just 2 Minute Walk to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Have a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
