Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • To start, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Spacious Dog-Friendly Condo with Shared Pool, Tennis, Golf & Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
