Rental property booking tips:

When to go & When to book:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your family agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Lovely and Large Two Bedroom Villa at the Heart of Palmetto Dunes! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
