Tips to get the very best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • To find the best value, change your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Gorgeous fifth floor oceanfront unit has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
