Rental property booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Hilton Head rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Finding the perfect rental:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Spacious Condo with WiFi, Wet Bar, & Water Views - Walk to South Beach Marina has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, call the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
