How to find the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Secluded island escape near the beach & Harbor Town with deck & AC- dog-friendly has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
