Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To get the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Recently updated, steps to the beach and The Dunes House Restaurant! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
