Finding the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting the best rental:

  • Start by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Recently updated, steps to the beach and The Dunes House Restaurant! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
