Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Recently updated, steps to the beach and The Dunes House Restaurant! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
