Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- To find the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. A Relaxing Getaway with Shared Pools and Hot Tub in an Oceanfront Villa has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
