Booking the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Family-Friendly Townhome with Lagoon View, Shared Pool, Hot Tub & Tennis has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
