Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Recently Renovated Coastal Inspired Villa, Short Walk to the Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
