Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your Hilton Head vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly ocean view oasis with pool, epic views, & 3-tier outdoor living has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
