Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book yourrental home:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Gorgeous oceanfront beach home with private pool in Palmetto Dunes sleeps 22 has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
