Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Ocean View Condo with Shared Hot Tub, Pool, and More - Close to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
