Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 2 Bed\/2 Bath Villa Centrally Located Near Coligny Beach, Rooftop Pool and Spa has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
