Strategies to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. 2 Bed\/2 Bath Villa Centrally Located Near Coligny Beach, Rooftop Pool and Spa has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
