Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. New to the Rental Market! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
