Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the perfect rental home:

  • First, have your group select the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Condo, Two Bedroom, Second Floor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is optimal for your family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
