Our top Hilton Head rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lovely ocean-view condo with pool, hot tub & sports courts has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If not, contact the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
