Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best vacation home in Hilton Head:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Close to beach, pickleball, tennis & golf with private pool, & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
