Booking the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • To find the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation rental in Hilton Head:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Close to beach, pickleball, tennis & golf with private pool & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
