Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental in Hilton Head:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Great Family Layout! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
