Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose your dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Gorgeous condo close to beach with golf views and swimming pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
