Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Gated community home w\/ vaulted ceilings, lagoon, & pools - near beaches has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
