Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Lovely villa with balcony, rooftop pool, hot tub, & parking - 1 block to beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
