How to book the best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly villa with pool, beach access, patio, central AC, & washer/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
