Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.

  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
