Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group select date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. New to the Rental Market! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.

  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
