Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. New to the Rental Market! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
