Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Desired Resort on Hilton Head Island (3 BD, 3BA Condo near beach) has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
