Hilton Head vacation rental home tips:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental:
- Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Wonderful sun-filled retreat w\/ generous patio, pool, & tennis - near beaches has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
