Our top Rental home tips:

Sticking to a budget:

  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Wonderful sun-filled retreat w\/ generous patio, pool, & tennis - near beaches has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
