Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the right Hilton Head rental:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. An Inspired Renovation Perfect for Your Next Family Getaway! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
