Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by having your family choose date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. An Inspired Renovation Perfect for Your Next Family Getaway! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
