Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to a budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking the bestrental:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 2 bedroom 2 bath townhouse overlooks the George Fazio golf course! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
