Hilton Head vacation rental home tips:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Coastal resort-style villa with pool, golf, & balcony - W/D, AC, & dog-friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is right for your group.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
