Booking the best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- First, have your family choose dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Wonderful vacation condo featuring shared pool & WiFi - close to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
