Our top Rental home tips:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- To get the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Second row to the ocean - 5 bedroom newly renovated & pet friendly beach home has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
