Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing the perfectrental:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Updated Condo with Lagoon Views, Shared Pool, Hot Tub & WiFI - Near Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
