Booking the best Hilton Head rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Open condo with pool, tennis, wooded balcony & central AC - close to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
