Strategies to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sunny & bright home near the beach w\/ private pool & furnished deck has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
